Wine Wise – formerly located at 122 East Putnam Avenue – has moved to the two-story, flat-roofed building at 37 West Putnam.  The new location opened on October 25, 2023.

Just inside the door, you will be met by three long rows of shelves being racked with Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Bordeaux, Spanish wines, Chardonnay, Sancerre and Sauvignon Blanc.  The store is L-shaped; on the left dogleg are wines from Italy, Germany, Australia, Israel, South Africa, non-alcoholic wines, port, sherry, Cognac, cordials and spirits.  A rack against the wall is devoted to Champagne and other sparkling wines. The selection includes some of the most prestigious Champagnes on the market such as Dom Perignon; Cristal; Krug; Armand de Brignac; Pol Roger Winston Churchill and Laurent-Perrier Grand Siecle. Of course, included are the favorite “house” Champagnes such as Ruinart; Bollinger; Billecart-Salmon; Veuve Clicquot; Laurent-Perrier; but a true specialty of Wine Wise is the selection of “grower” Champagnes. Here you will find names that you might not recognize but represent smaller family-owned Champagne producers, most of whom are devoted to making a variety of great Champagnes using less sugar and practicing organic and biodynamic farming. The price of these great Champagnes is generally lower than the big-name producers as well.

We want our customers to feel that we will guide them reliably through the wines we offer, special order wines for customers, and advise customers on wine pairings.  We focus on purchasing a diverse selection for the store.  We have a well-curated selection of top-end wines from well-known producers, boutique estates, and lesser-known but well-received domains.  In addition, Wine Wise keeps an eye on value, with a good range of whites, reds, rosés and sparkling wines in the $15 to $25 range. 

The L-shaped counter doubles as a tasting table and classroom where wine classes such as the Introduction to Sauvignon Blanc, Introduction to Pinot Noir and Introduction to Burgundy tasting classes take place. It is also a very comfortable space for private tasting events of up to twenty people.

Wine Wise is set off from Putnam, giving it four parking spaces.  This is more convenient for customers than in our previous location.  The store on West Putnam offers slightly more room than the previous location, with new lighting, a renovated interior, and a more updated, modern feel.
